Canyon CSR Program: “Canyon Cares”
As a senior member of the investment team, alongside having had the privilege of leading Canyon’s Culture and Corporate Citizenship effort in Europe, I can honestly say, working at Canyon has been equally challenging and fulfilling. At Canyon, I’ve been encouraged to think laterally and apply my creativity to all aspects of my work. From negotiating liquid and illiquid investments, to nurturing relationships with our counterparts and investors, to crafting and implementing our community engagement strategy in Europe. We operate in a highly competitive and dynamic industry, so we constantly think about how we differentiate ourselves from the pack. Since the day I joined the firm, it’s been evident that intellectual curiosity and integrity form the bedrock of our culture. Along with a deep focus on analytical rigor, and hiring good citizens, I believe these traits positively differentiate us from other high-achieving investment firms.
I have had different roles and even worked in different countries during my tenure at Canyon and have found the continuity between offices and groups to be the commitment to teamwork and the pursuit of excellence, in regards to generating returns for investors, but also returning to their respective communities. As a senior leader on the investment team, in addition to being the mother of two young children, Canyon has really gone above and beyond to ensure I am challenged and engaged in the workplace, but that the right balance exists for my family as well. It is a high-stress and unforgiving industry, but with such great personal and professional examples from the senior leaders at the firm, it’s been a great place to make my career.
Since joining Canyon as an intern, I have had the opportunity to work across various teams, asset classes, and offices within Canyon’s real estate platform and have a deep appreciation for the investment that the Firm makes in developing its junior talent. Throughout my time at Canyon, I have been continually challenged and given the tools to grow professionally. Now as a senior investment professional on the DEI committee, I am pleased to help drive initiatives to promote diversity within the Firm as well as give back to underserved communities.
My favorite thing about working at Canyon is the focus on continuous learning and improvement, both as a firm and with its team members. I’ve been with the company for over 10 years and have been given great opportunities to explore different aspects of the Real Estate Department as I’ve advanced in my career. Canyon’s collaborative and inclusive culture as well as its strong community involvement are also admirable qualities of the Firm.
Canyon Partners has been a place of growth and opportunity since the day I joined. After years of struggling to determine what my career would be or where it was going, Canyon has allowed me the space to grow and the freedom to make my career my own. Outside of my day-to-day tasks, I’ve had the opportunity to take a leadership role on our DEI committee as well as lead a financial literacy program for High School girls in the Dallas area. These last two years have been life-changing both personally and professionally. Canyon is doing great things and I am so excited to be on this journey.
I joined Canyon in 2018 as a recent college graduate. Being new to the workforce, my colleagues were quick to offer mentorship and have supported my professional growth over the past 4 years. The people of Canyon, especially senior leadership, always push me to perform my best and consistently trust in my abilities to perform. The positive and encouraging team environment is one of the main reasons why I love working at Canyon.
I attribute my long tenure at Canyon to the values of integrity, intellectual curiosity, entrepreneurship, and professionalism espoused by the leadership and in practice across the firm. The committee sets the course for implementing and monitoring progress, while working closely with senior management to develop short- and long-term goals.
